REMOTE ONLINE NOTARY

Remote Online Notarization: Your Documents, Notarized From Anywhere
Remote Online Notarization (RON) is Red Tails' digital flight path: a fully legal, video-based notarization completed from your laptop or phone, with a commissioned electronic notary on the other end of a secure, encrypted connection. No driving, no waiting room, no wasted afternoon.
Virginia, Maryland, and Florida each authorize Remote Online Notarization by statute, and Red Tails' electronic notaries are commissioned and RON-approved to operate in all three. Every session runs through identity-verification technology that meets or exceeds state-mandated standards.
Whether you're closing on a house from another state, signing a power of attorney from a hospital bed, or need a document notarized before a deadline that doesn't care about your commute, RON gives Red Tails the reach to meet you exactly where you are.
Supported Platforms
Red Tails conducts every Remote Online Notarization session on industry-leading, state-approved platforms — so your document is backed by bank-grade identity verification and a tamper-evident digital seal, not just a video call and a signature pad.
BlueNotary: Fast, secure identity verification with biometric liveness checks and instant document delivery after your session.
Proof (formerly Notarize): The identity-assurance standard for real estate and legal closings — NIST IAL2-verified notaries and AATL-compliant digital certificates.
Snapdocs: The scheduling and closing-coordination system many title companies and lenders already use — Red Tails connects directly into your transaction.
All three platforms meet Virginia, Maryland, and Florida's legal requirements for identity verification, tamper-evident sealing, and session recording retention.
How to Prepare for Your RON Session
Before your appointment
1. Have your document ready — a clean PDF, or the email invitation link if a title company, lender, or attorney is sending it.
2. Check your tech — a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a working camera, microphone, and stable internet connection.
3. Locate your ID — one current, unexpired, government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID).
4. Set aside 15–30 minutes in a quiet, well-lit, private space where you can speak freely.
During your session, you'll be asked to
Confirm a few identity details and answer several identity-verification questions.
Show your ID to the camera so we can confirm it's really you.
Join a short, secure video call with your Red Tails notary to review the document, confirm your understanding, and complete your electronic signature together.
You'll receive your completed, notarized document immediately after the session, with 24/7 access to retrieve it again anytime.
What Signers Need to Bring
Government-issued photo ID: Driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, or military ID — must be current and unexpired.
A device with camera + microphone: Computer, tablet, or smartphone with a stable internet connection.
A private, quiet space: So you can speak candidly and confirm your consent and signature without interruption.
A witness, if your document requires one: We'll let you know in advance if your document type needs a witness — they can join in person with you or, when permitted, remotely.
A few extra minutes for identity verification: A short set of identity-confirmation questions is a standard, required part of every RON session.
A note on document type: Most notarized documents — affidavits, powers of attorney, deeds, and loan documents — are fully eligible for Remote Online Notarization in Virginia, Maryland, and Florida. A small number of document types (certain wills, trusts, and estate-planning documents) have extra state-specific requirements and in some cases require an in-person signing instead. If you're not sure whether your document qualifies, reach out to us first and we'll confirm before you schedule.
Security & Compliance
Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) — identity-verification questions from your personal and public records history before your session begins.
Credential analysis — your government ID is scanned and checked for visual, physical, and cryptographic security features.
Biometric verification — a live selfie comparison confirms the person on camera matches the ID on file.
X.509 digital certificates — industry-standard cryptographic technology binds the notary's identity to the document.
Tamper-evident seals — a digital hash seals the document; any later alteration leaves visible evidence.
Encrypted audio-video audit trail — your entire session is recorded, encrypted, and time-stamped.
Retention you can count on: Session recordings and signing records are retained for 5 years in Virginia, 10 years in Maryland, and 10 years in Florida.
The Flight Plan: Your RON Session, Step by Step
1. Book your session — choose a time that fits your schedule.
2. Upload your documents securely ahead of your session.
3. Verify your identity — KBA, ID credential analysis, and biometric verification.
4. Enter your live RON session — meet your commissioned electronic notary over secure video.
5. E-notarization — your notary applies their official electronic seal and digital certificate.
6. Secure delivery — your finished, tamper-sealed document is delivered digitally.
7. Audit trail retention — your session recording is securely retained for the state-required period.
